New Business Owner is Overrun by Fruit & Drain Flies in Asbury Park, NJ
Challenge
A new entrepreneur recently purchased his father's old restaurant in Asbury Park, NJ, and was planning on renovating certain areas of the building. His only issue was that there was a massive fruit and drain fly infestation throughout the building! So he called Cowleys and we were sent out to inspect and treat.
As we began investigating, we found several drains throughout the building that had a massive buildup of gunk inside them, the custodian closet was filled with debris, dirty mops, and a clogged drain that was overflowing with dirty water and broken tile underneath one sink in the kitchen that had water pooling around it. Each one of these locations had a large number of drain and fruit flies hovering close by.
Solution
We immediately spoke to the owner and mentioned that these problem areas need to be addressed and cleaned ASAP. After our conversation, the owner and his staff began properly cleaning these areas and the owner hired a contractor to repair the broken tile and handle the plumbing issue in the custodian closet.
As they were finishing up cleaning, we scrubbed out all the drains in the area and applied a liquid application. This treatment removes the bad bacteria in the drains, which is the breeding ground for the drain and fruit flies. Next, we treated the drains with a bio-foam product that eliminates all fly-attracting odors. Lastly, we applied a fly bait product around the problem areas to eliminate any active drain and fruit flies and scheduled several follow-up visits to monitor the infestation and apply any additional treatments if needed.
