Large European Hornets Nest Found in Sea Girt, NJ
Challenge
This homeowner in Sea Girt, NJ, called our office after noticing what she called "large yellow jackets" by her front door. When we arrived, we equipped our protective bee suit and took a closer look at the area. That's when we discovered that, they weren't yellow jackets, but European hornets!
Also called the giant hornet, European hornets received their name from their introduction from Europe into New York in the 1800s. They are brown with yellow stripes on their abdomen, are social stinging insects, and their queen can measure up to 1.4 inches long!
As we examined the area closer, we realized that their nest was located in a void underneath the soffit area.
Solution
Using our extendable pole we applied a knockdown aerosol application to their nest and then a knockdown dusting product. Both of these applications will rapidly exterminate the European hornets. Several moments later we removed the nest, disposed of it, and then applied a residual application to the area to prevent them from rebuilding their nest.
