Wood Destroying Carpenter Ants Infest Home in Freehold, NJ
Challenge
I was sent out on a service call to a new client in Freehold, NJ who was suffering from an ant infestation inside his home. When I arrived at the home, I began my inspection inside the living room and immediately noticed the massive swarm of carpenter ants in the corner!
Carpenter ants are wood-destroying insects and received their name because they excavate wood in order to build their nests. They are known to cause the most damage out of all the different species of ants that commonly infest structures. After inspecting the interior of the home, I went outside to view the exterior by the living room and noticed that there was a tree by the exact window where the carpenter ants were coming in. I took closer a look and discovered that the carpenter ants were nesting in that tree!
Solution
We treated the base of the stump, the entire exterior perimeter, and all the window sills of the home with a liquid non-repellant. Once we finished, we applied a granular bait to the stump as well as the bases of the trees located on the property. We also treated, at the request of the homeowner, the living room, dining room, and hallway with the liquid non-repellant.
The carpenter ants are coming to come in contact with either of these products and return to their nest to share them with each other and their queen by feeding or grooming one another. By doing this, they are unknowingly spreading the treatments throughout their entire colony, which results in the complete extermination of the carpenter ant colony.
