Albino Cockroach Found in Manasquan, NJ
Challenge
This business owner in Manasquan, NJ, had a recent flare-up of cockroaches, primarily in the kitchen area. When I arrived, I spoke to the owner who mentioned that he only had a cockroach infestation after receiving a wine shipment from his retailer. I inspected the shipment, and sure enough, there were cockroaches harboring inside. Turns out that the cockroaches were brought into the restaurant from the wine shipment. That's why we always inform our customers to inspect your deliveries or groceries carefully before bringing them into your home or business.
As I was removing the items for treatment, I came across a unique little critter, an "albino" cockroach. This “white roach” is actually a newly molted cockroach. When a cockroach molts it comes out white and stays white until the new exoskeleton has time to harden. So this cockroach isn't albino, it takes just a few hours for the cockroaches exoskeleton to turn brown and harden again.
Solution
First, I treated all the cracks and crevices with an aerosol fogging application. This will draw the cockroaches out of hiding and exterminate them immediately. I then placed several glue monitor traps around the area.
After treating the entire area, I scheduled a follow-up visit to monitor the infestation and determine what, if any, additional treatments are needed.
