Black Widow Caught in Brick, NJ
Challenge
While I was checking the rodent bait station at this commercial building in Brick, NJ I came across one bait station that had a large black widow in it!
Black widow spiders are usually black in color and are most recognized for the red hourglass shape on the underside of their abdomen (occasionally, the females are brownish-black). They are approximately 3 to 10 mm long, and the females are larger than the males. They favor dry, dark locations to spin their webs, which is why this black widow was harboring in our rodent bait station!
Solution
I applied a knockdown product directly to the black widow and then captured and removed it from the bait station. I then replaced that bait station and performed a crack and crevice treatment around the entire exterior with a residual application that is specifically labeled to control spiders. This application will control the spider population around the exterior of the building and eliminate any spiders.
