Pest Control in Ocean Township, NJ
Challenge
A new customer in Ocean Township, NJ called our office complaining of an unknown insect in her living room. After arriving and thoroughly inspecting the home I found a few cave crickets jumping around the living room.
Cave crickets, or most notoriously referred to as sprickets, are jumping insects that look like a new creature from a J J Abrams film. Although they may look terrifying, they're harmless. They cannot bite and they don't spread any diseases. In fact, the only way they defend themselves is by jumping right at their predators — which does scare the daylights out of homeowners. Camel crickets are omnivores and will eat fungus, plant matters, insects, mold and even fabric or cloths.
Now, the fact that you see few cave crickets jumping around your living room doesn’t mean they are nesting there — the source maybe some were else. I decided to do some detective work and inspect the crawl space. Cave crickets are known for harboring in dark, moist areas that are similar to a cave — and what area of a home best represents a cave? That's right, basements and crawl spaces, which is exactly where I found the main infestation of cave crickets.
Solution
After finding the source, I applied a liquid residual directly onto the cave crickets as well as applied a granular bait throughout the entire crawl space. Both of these treatments are designed to almost immediately eliminate the cave crickets. I then traveled to the main floor and applied the same treatment throughout the home and placed several glue traps both in the crawl space and on the first floor. In a short amount of time, the cave crickets will be gone and the home will once again be pest-free!
