Pest Control in Manasquan, NJ
Challenge
While performing a routine commercial service for this restaurant in Manasquan, NJ one of the workers told me that he spotted fruit flies in the back room. As I inspected I found an area by the mop sink that had a missing wall tile that was allowing the wallboard behind it to get wet. I also discovered broken floor tile that had a buildup of dirty water and muck. I took a closer look and found red eye fruit flies and their larvae throughout the broken floor tiles.
Fruit flies breed in decaying, organic matter. Restaurants are very susceptible to fruit fly infestations because of the amounts of fresh produce brought in and the potential for build-up beneath soda fountains. Often, when the kitchen staff or cleaning crew is cleaning the floor, food and other objects are swept into the floor cracks. This accumulation of food debris combined with moist, warm conditions creates the ideal breeding ground for fruit flies.
Solution
For treatment, I vacuumed up all the pupa and larva in all floor cracks and treated the area with a liquid product to control the existing flies. As a preventative step, I used a heavy-duty brush to thoroughly scrub all the floor drains and applied a liquid application that removes the bad bacteria from the drain.
After treatment, I spoke to the owner about implementing a few simple sanitation procedures that'll keep these pests out of his building, to which she agreed and immediately implemented it to her staff.
