Exterminators in Rumson, NJ
Challenge
We were dispatched to a homeowner in Rumson, NJ that called our office complaining of "sprickets" jumping around her front yard. As we arrived and began inspecting the property we discovered that the homeowner had a massive camel cricket infestation.
Camel crickets get their name from the hump-backed appearance of their bodies that resembles a camel. They are primarily referred to as spider crickets or sprickets. These crickets are mostly found outdoors but they also enter homes under garage doors, door sills or gaps in the foundation as they look for prey to feed on. They also enter homes in order to get to moist, dark places where they can lay their eggs due to safety from their enemies and the favorable hatching conditions.
Although they may look terrifying, they are harmless. They only damage they can do is, if a large number exist, feed on fabrics and houseplants. These crickets don't bite and have no form of defense other than the ability to jump to startle any predator.
Solution
The best way to control these unwanted guests is to instruct our customers to remove the cricket's habitats from the exterior of the structure, like moving woodpiles from the side of the house, removing leaves and debris away from the structure. In this case, the homeowner had mulch beds around the foundation, which was where the crickets were living. We treated under the siding with a residual application to deter any crickets from entering the structure.
Next, we applied a weather-resistant granular bait around the perimeter of the home. The camel crickets will ingest this bait and in a short amount of time will be eliminated. After completing the exterior treatment, we treated the garage and the basement areas with a residual product for any crickets that might have entered the home.
