Yellowjackets Attack From Below in Holmdel, NJ
Challenge
Recently, I went out on a service call for a homeowner in Holmdel, NJ who was experiencing an issue with wasps swarming all over his driveway. The infestation of wasps was so intense that the homeowner was terrified to use the driveway and instead, parked his car on the street! When I arrived, I equipped my protective bee suit (to protect myself from getting stung) and began inspecting. In a matter of minutes, I spotted a swarm of yellow jackets coming out from underneath the bushes near the driveway.
Yellowjackets are predatory social wasps that have a black and yellow color pattern banded across their abdomens. They are known for their short, aggressive nature and painful stings. They are over 16 different species of yellowjackets and, depending on the species, the queen will pick either an underground or aerial site to build her nest. Yellowjackets are able to sense vibrations in their ground and once something comes close to their nest, the guards will emerge and begin defending it.
Solution
First, I applied an aerosol application directly into the nest. This treatment paralyzes and eliminates the yellowjackets almost immediately. Next, I applied a light dusting application to the area and the yellowjackets. Once they come in contact with the application they begin grooming themselves to remove it, unknowingly ingesting the application and sealing their fate.
In no time at all, the yellowjackets will be eliminated for good. After applying both applications, I waited a few moments, removed the nest, and then properly disposed of it.
