Carpenter Ants Munch On Homeowners Sun Porch in Freehold, NJ
Challenge
One of our commercial accounts, a senior community in Freehold, NJ contacted us after an occupant reported large black ants in her home to the property manager. When I arrived the homeowner showed me an area of the sun porch that was being invaded by carpenter ants. Upon further inspection I observed the ants trailing around and underneath the sill plate of a sliding glass door leading to the exterior. There was a hole next to the door that was going under the sill plate and continued under the wall next to the door. This was how the ants made their way into the sun porch.
Carpenter ants can be anywhere from ½” to ⅝” long and can be a combination of black and red, or completely black, red or brown. If not controlled properly, they can cause significant property damage in a short period of time. Unlike termites that consume the cellulose in the wood, carpenter ants excavate the wood and form smooth tunnels inside soft, usually, water damaged wood.
Solution
I treated all along the entire exterior of the property and the interior with a liquid residual application and applied a granular bait along the exterior of the sun porch. When the ants unknowingly come in contact with these products, they will carry them back to their nest and transfer the treatments among one another. In a short amount of time, the ants are neutralized. Once the carpenter ants are gone for good the homeowner will hire a contractor to repair the damage done to her sun porch.
