Routine Maintenance Turns in Cockroach Nightmare in Neptune, NJ
Challenge
While I was performing regular maintenance in an apartment complex in Neptune, NJ I noticed something unusual — a lot of roach droppings in a kitchen in one of the apartments. After my inspection, I found that the cockroaches were entering through a tiny crack in a wall in the kitchen. Cockroaches love warm, dark & moist spaces, which makes your kitchen a perfect habitat for them. Although cockroaches are considered a safe and nutritious food for humans and have been snacked on by humans for millennia, it would be unwise to eat the ones you find around the house. Aside from being utterly disgusting, some people have an allergic reaction to cockroaches and they carry a number of diseases. So if you see a cockroach in your home, DON’T EAT IT!
Solution
This situation presented quite a challenge. Since there was too much clutter in the apartment to properly treat it and, rather being safe than sorry, I scheduled the treatment for a different time with the maintenance office at the complex. Doing this will give the tenant enough time to remove their clutter and prepare for our visit. By having a lot of clutter, such as dirty laundry, makes it easier for the cockroaches to find another place to hide and reproduce. I didn’t want to leave the premise without apply some type of treatment, so I baited all cracks and crevices with an IGR (insect growth regulator) to narrow down the population while we have the maintenance office help prep for a full treatment.
