Crawl Space Encapsulation Photo Album: Encapsulating the Crawl Space and Keeping it Warm in Brick, NJ
This homeowner in Brick, NJ decided to take advantage of all the benefits of encapsulating his crawl space.
Step One: Level The Field
First, we removed all the debris and leveled the crawl space. Afterward, we installed a dimpled drainage matting.
The Drainage Matting
This plastic mat allows all excess moisture to work its way over to the new sump pump we installed.
Crawl Space Encapsulation Step Two: Vapor Barrier
Next, we installed a vapor barrier which is a 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement.
Talk About Tough
The vapor barrier cannot tear, is extremely durable, and is treated with an antimicrobial finish that protects against mold and mildew growth.
The Smart Drain
After installing the vapor barrier, we installed a Smart Drain. This will prevent any moisture from sitting on top of the vapor barrier.
Crawl Space Encapsulation Step Three: The Commercial Dehumidifier
Lastly, to control the humidity levels in the crawl space, we installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run.
Keeping the Floor Warm
The homeowner now has an improved, clean, and healthy crawl space.
