Crawl Space in Toms River
Challenge
Unbeknownst to this Toms River homeowner, there was a severe moisture problem in his crawl space, As often happens, the sand or soil crawl space floor can develop large amounts of water and moisture, contaminating the crawl space area. These problems can go undetected for years if you never go down to check on things,. Crawl spaces are dank, dirty places, and with their low ceilings, are difficult to navigate, especially for home owners with mobility issues.
Fortunately, his neighbor has just used Cowleys to encapsulate, insulate, and repair his crawl space and, as the new neighborhood crawl space expert, told him about its many benefits, such as inhibiting mold growth and moisture problems, keeping out rodents and insects, and having cleaner, drying, air in the home that was a pleasure to breathe. In fact, his neighbor was so proud of his new crawl space that he insisted on giving him a guided tour. It was then, that this customer decided he better take a look at his own crawl space. Suffice it to say, it was not a pretty site. There was no way he was going to let his neighbor have bragging rights about the best crawl space on the block! So, he called up Cowleys to get to work.
Solution
We installed a vapor barrier liner that prevents moisture from passing through the floors and concrete walls of traditional crawl space structures, a Crawl Space Drainage System, and perhaps the most important long-term feature for controlling dangerous crawl space moisture, installed a commercial-grade dehumidifier that is specifically designed for basement and crawl spaces. These powerful dehumidifiers are maintenance free. They don’t have a water tray; rather, they feed directly into the drainage system. The customer was so happy with the results, we left the job pretty sure that he was going to schedule a neighborhood open house to show off his new and improved crawl space!
