Taking This Old, Dirty Crawl Space & Encapsulating It in Far Hills, NJ
We were sent out to the home of a new customer in Far Hills, NJ to encapsulate his dirt floor crawl space. There are several issues with having a dirt floor crawl space, such as high humidity levels, poor air quality, structural damage, dry rot, and mold and mildew.
First, we removed all the debris and old insulation out of the crawl space and disposed of them properly. Once that was finished, we leveled the ground for proper draining and installed drainage matting, which is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over to the new SmartSump™ Crawl Space Sump Pump we installed. The SmartSump™ Crawl Space Sump Pump protects vulnerable crawl spaces by combining an intelligent WaterWatch® alarm system with a sump pump that's specifically designed for crawl spaces.
Next, we installed a vapor barrier, which is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. It cannot tear and is extremely durable. By encapsulating the crawl space & installing the vapor barrier over the foundation walls and floor will create a continuous air and moisture barrier. The vapor barrier is also treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold. Once that was finished, we installed ComfortTherm® Insulation throughout the crawl space. ComfortTherm® Insulation is poly-encapsulated and is ideal for moisture-rich crawl space environments. The insulation also helps to preserve the air quality, reduce energy costs, provide excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates.
Lastly, we installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run. Now the owner has a newly transformed, energy efficient crawl space that also doubles as a storage area!
