Starlings Clogging the Vent
As I started inspecting, I spotted starlings leaving the exhaust vent. I examined the area and found some nesting debris. Birds invading a home is a serious health risk as their nesting debris can carry parasites and is a fire hazard. Fortunately, it was only the beginning stages and there was no young present.
Cleaned & Deodorized
I carefully removed the nesting debris and then sanitized and deodorized the vent with a solution that targets bird mites. If disturbed while removing bird mites will make their way inside and quickly infest the home.
Excluding the Starlings
After disinfecting the area, I sealed off the exhaust vent to prevent any other birds from entering the home.
Now for the Ridge Vent
In order to exclude birds and nuisance wildlife from entering the home through the ridge vent, I installed a RIDGE-GUARD®. RIDGE-GUARD® is a system for guarding against nuisance wildlife and bird entry at the roof ridge. Now the home is properly protected from invasive birds and nuisance wildlife.
