Bird Control Services Photo Album: Pigeons Perching Up in Ship Bottom, NJ
Recently, I went on a service call to a property in Ship Bottom, NJ after the homeowner contacted Cowleys for an issue with pigeons on his roof.
Using the Roof as a Bathroom
As I began my inspection, I found bird feces all over the roof. Turns out the pigeons were using this house as roosting area and defecating on the roof.
Pigeons on the Roof is a Serious Issue
Pigeons are perfect disease carriers. They can harbor dozens of different parasites and infectious diseases through their droppings. The spores from the drying feces can enter the vents and air ducts of your home and settle on the food or water. This can result in food poisoning due to salmonella infection. The airborne spores usually contain dormant bacteria and fungi. When they are inhaled, the moist and warm environment of the lungs offers the perfect breeding ground for the airborne pathogens.
Install a Shock Track
To eliminate this problem we installed a product called shock track. A Shock track is a low-profile ledge deterrent system that is effective against all species of pest birds utilizing the principle of fear and flight, conditioning birds to stay away.
How does Shock Track Work
The shock track is installed on the ledges and roofline of the home. The unique electrically charged tracks impart a mild electrical shock when birds land on them. The shock will not harm birds but will condition them to avoid the area.
Charge by Solar Power
After lining the ledges and the roofline with the shock track, we connected it to a solar box. The solar box is powered by the sun and will also charge the battery inside the solar box itself. This will help keep the track charged and running on cloudy days. I scheduled a follow-up inspection with the homeowner to monitor the pigeon activity.
