Recognizing The Professional Pest Control Industry On World Pest Day

Cowleys Pest Services offers advice for maintaining a pest-free home this summer

June 6 is World Pest Day, an annual worldwide observance established to raise awareness among the public, government, and media about the important role that the pest control industry plays in protecting health, food, property, and the environment from pest health threats. In recognition of the invaluable impact, the industry has on our everyday lives and well-being, Cowleys Pest Services is joining the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) in celebrating pest control professionals everywhere by spreading awareness of the health threats posed by pests.

“Aside from being a nuisance, pests can actually have a direct impact on our health as well,” said Bill Cowley, Co-Owner of Cowleys Pest Services. “Many common pests can not only spread deadly diseases and germs to humans but can also destroy property, incurring costly damage. Whether through regular home inspections or ridding your local grocery store of an infestation, pest control professionals are there to protect you and your property from the dangers associated with pests, and World Pest Day is the perfect time to recognize the vital role they play in keeping you, your family and your community safe.”

With the help of NPMA, Cowleys Pest Services recommends the following tips to help homeowners and businesses better prepare their property against pest infestations:

  • Eliminate sources of standing water, including birdbaths and clogged gutters to help reduce biting mosquito populations.
  • Seal any cracks on the outside of the property with a silicone-based caulk, including entry points for utilities and pipes.
  • Replace weather-stripping around windows and repair loose mortar around the foundation.
  • Keep tree branches and shrubbery well-trimmed and away from the property. Overhanging branches can act as highways into the property.
  • Keep mulch at least 15 inches from the foundation.
  • Keep basements, attics, and crawl spaces well-ventilated and dry.
  • Store garbage in sealed containers and dispose of it regularly.
  • Wipe down kitchen counters to remove crumbs and spills that could attract pests.
