Photo Album: Carpenter Ants Foraging From Tree in Freehold, NJ
While treating a current Home Protection Plan clients home in Freehold, NJ, we noticed some carpenter ant damage and frass (wood shavings) in the backyard.
Frass in the Mulch
While treating the backyard we noticed some frass in the mulch. Frass is the wood shavings that carpenter ants deposit in small mounds near their nests. It looks like finely ground up sawdust.
Followed Their Trail
We found the carpenter ants in the grass and closely followed their trail to locate their main nest.
50 Feet Away
Eventually, we located the main nest of the carpenter ants in a tree that was 50 feet from the home! That distance isn't uncommon for carpenter ants as they can forage up to 100 yards from their nest!
Cowleys Treatment for Carpenter Ants
We applied a non-repellant residual along the base of the tree, directly onto their trail, and along the entire exterior of the home. We also applied a granular bait throughout the backyard, the base of the tree, and along the mulch where we found the frass.
Extermination of Carpenter Ants
Once the carpenter ants come in contact with either of these treatments, they'll bring it back to their nest and share it with their queen and the other ants in the colony. In no time at all, the entire colony is eliminated.
