As we were performing an inspection at a restaurant in Spring Lake, NJ, we found a few German cockroaches on a glue board that we use to monitor pest activity. We had located this glue board under a table near the back door. We thought to ourselves that it was a very odd location for roaches to be nesting. After a brief interview with the chef, he informed me that the deliveries are often left right by the table where the roaches were found. Cockroaches travel in boxes, usually in between the layers of the box in the corrugated part. Roaches love these small, dark areas and can easily go undetected. Educating commercial customers is a huge part of teaching restaurant owners and managers how to keep their facility pest-free. We recommended that all cardboard deliveries must be unpacked and removed from the building as soon as it enters to ensure that cockroaches won't come out of the infested cardboard. We applied a gel bait to all areas the harborage area and fan sprayed all crack and crevice areas on the ground level as well as motor housings with an EPA registered growth regulator that is combined with a residual product. This application will exterminate the cockroaches. Afterward, we reset the monitors and scheduled several follow-up visits to monitor the infestation and, if necessary, apply any additional treatments. Restaurant Has Cockroaches in Spring Lake, NJ
