Tree is Heavily Infested with Carpenter Ants in Hillsborough, NJ

Challenge

As we were treating the exterior of one of our customers home in Hillsborough, NJ we noticed something interesting in the backyard - a badly damaged tree with a lot of frass (sawdust) at the base. We took a closer look at it and discovered that it was heavily infested with carpenter ants. 

Carpenter ants are wood-destroying insects and received their name because they excavate wood in order to build their nests. They are pretty large ants, about ¼ to ½ inch in length, and are social insects that live in colonies that can exceed more than 10,000 workers!

Solution

We injected a residual dusting application into the crevices and nook of the tree. Once we finished, we then applied some granular bait around the base of the tree and throughout the landscape. Lastly, as a precaution, we treated the entire exterior of the home with a liquid residual. The worker carpenter ants will come in contact with either of these treatments, bring them back to their colony, and then share them with their queen as well as the other ants in their nest. In a short amount of time, the carpenter ants will be neutralized.
