Wildlife Removal Photo Album: Raccoons removal in Long Branch, NJ home
The roof of a home in Long Branch, NJ was damaged by a falling tree branch. As often happens, a few raccoons seized the opportunity to gain attic access by expanding the hole. Once on the roof, raccoons, as well as squirrels, will often exploit damaged roofs or soffits to gain entry. This is another reason why it is so important for homeowners to keep their home well maintained and timely repair damages and, when necessary, replace weakened, water-saturated materials.
Roof damage
These raccoons exploited a weak spot in the roof.
We set up multiple traps.
The homeowner contacted Cowleys to trap and relocate the trespassing raccoons. I attached a one-way door over the top of the roof hole. One way devices are hinged so they only open in one direction. The animals are able to freely leave the attic, but are prevented from returning. It's a one-way trip! I also strategically placed two baited traps on the roof as well. Sometimes, wildlife will take the bait, and sometimes they don't. Raccoons especially are very intelligent creatures, and they are quite cautious when something new is added to their environment.

After all wildlife activity around the roof stopped after a couple of days, it was apparent that the raccoons moved on elsewhere. I thoroughly inspected the attic's interior and determined that there were no babies or anything else inside the home. With everything clear, I temporarily sealed the roof hole with a sheet of aluminum until the homeowner could arrange a permanent repair with a general contractor or roofer.
