Wildlife Removal Photo Album: Excluding wildlife from home near pond and woods in Port Reading
A Cowleys nuisance wildlife control crew was dispatched to a home in Port Reading to perform some preventative exclusion work in order to shore up some potential entry points for wildlife. This particular property, with a large pond in the rear of the home, was, according to the owner, like living in a “nature reserve” wildlife squirrels, mice, and other animals scurrying about on and around his home. While the family enjoyed living around a variety of wildlife, they wanted to keep the wildlife “in the wild,” and drew the line at not having these critters as uninvited guests in their home!
Vent covers installed in Port Reading to keep out wildlife
A common entry point for wildlife are vents. Homes use a variety of vents to exhaust out hot humid air. Retaining humid air inside the home builds up moisture and can lead to all sorts of problems, including mold growth. To prevent this, we have attic vents and dryer vents. Also, many homes have bathroom vents that vent hot air to the outside.

This homeowner did not have an active wildlife infestation. He called us because he did not want to take any chances. Once wildlife gets in your home, they can cause significant property damage through their chewing and droppings. If you have wildlife in the attic, you are almost guaranteed that, at a minimum, large swaths of your insulation will be ruined, and a whole lot worse can happen, including chewed wiring. Wildlife is also a health hazard to the home's occupants. For example, dried animal droppings containing dangerous pathogens can become airborne causing serious respiratory infections.
Unfortunately, standard vent covers are made by manufacturers are not made with wildlife exclusion in mind. Standard vent covers, which are often a fairly flimsy piece of mesh, either metal or some kind of poly-based cloth, are no match for the razor-sharp teeth and claws of raccoons or squirrels. Time and time again, wildlife technicians have found these covers ripped out or chewed through numerous species of nuisance wildlife.
Vent cover installed in Port Reading, New Jersey
We installed two static vent covers that secure right to the roof and siliconed the screw heads to create a seal to block out rainwater. Whenever you install a structure on the roof, you have to be extra careful - any new hole can potentially be the source of a roof leak if not done properly. We also installed new dryer vent covers, and used an epoxy adhesive to close off some widely separated joints. With this preventative exclusion work completed, any wildlife that manages to get on the roof with have a next-to-impossible job of finding a way to gain access inside the attic.
This homeowner wanted to avoid any wildlife intrusion headaches down the road, and told us that with these added wildlife deterrents, he will be able to sleep a whole lot better at night.
