Builders Gap Allows Squirrels to Infest Home in Freehold, NJ
Challenge
This customer in Freehold, NJ noticed a few squirrels ripping apart a some areas of his roof and causing considerable damage to it. He immediately our Little Rascals Nuisance Wildlife Division for help and we were sent out to inspect and treat. After completing our inspection, we determined that the squirrels were entering the home via the builders gap. A builders gap is the gap between the fascia board (where the gutter is hung) and roof decking. This gap is caused when roof decking is stopped too short and is not flush with the fascia. The gap is meant to help with airflow throughout the attic, but is also the perfect place for pests and nuisance wildlife to enter your home! We also found a large amount of nesting debris from the squirrels in the soffit.
Solution
We carefully removed the nesting debris, installed a one-way over the access points, and set up several baited devices nearby. The one-way is designed to allow the squirrels to safely leave the area, but prevent them from getting back in. A short while later, we safely retrieved all the squirrels from the home and relocated them to a new, humane location. Afterward, we disinfected the area.
In order to exclude the squirrels, as well as any other nuisance wildlife, from continuously infesting the home, we installed Pest-Blok. Pest-Blok doesn't restrict the airflow to the attic, undergoes a silicone-protected polyester coating process that makes it last longer, and guards the home against squirrels, pests, birds, and all other nuisance wildlife!
