Raccoons Make An Entrance for Squirrels in Parlin, NJ
Challenge
After a homeowner in Parlin, NJ called our office after hearing noises in his attic, we were sent out to inspect. Upon arrival, we inspected the roof and noticed that a section of the roof was ripped apart. After careful examination, it looked like this opening was made by a raccoon that couldn’t make it big enough to gain access into the attic and gave up. Shortly after the raccoon left, some squirrels decided to take advantage of the opening and move right in.
Solution
We temporarily sealed up the access point with hardware cloth and installed a one-way device. A one-way device is a device that allows the squirrels to safely exit the attic, but prevent them from getting back in. We also placed tape at the end of the one-way, which helps us monitor the infestation in the attic. We also placed several baited traps nearby.
Once all the squirrels are safely removed from the home, we will relocate them to a new, humane environment, disinfect the attic, repair the damage, and seal up the access point with sturdy, metal flashing.
