Pests We Treat Photo Album: Black Widow Found Under the Stove in Manchester Township, NJ
Since this homeowner in Manchester Township, NJ has arachnophobia, needless to say, this discovery terrified her!
That's a Black Widow Alright
This was a nice surprise to find underneath the kitchen stove!
Look at the Hourglass
Female black widows are shiny black, with a red-orange triangular markings that look like an hourglass. They use a silk-like substance to weave tangled-looking webs, typically close to the ground in covered or dark places, such as near drain pipes or under logs. In this case, underneath the stove!
Don't Disturb Them
The female black widow spider hangs upside down in the web to await her prey, exposing her bright markings as a warning to potential predators and their venom is reported to be 15 times stronger than that of a rattlesnake! Fortunately, they only bite humans when they are disturbed. So don't disturb them!
Goodby Black Widow
We applied a knockdown liquid application directly to the black widow spider as well as performed a crack and crevice treatment around the interior and entire exterior of the building with a residual application that is specifically labeled to eliminate spiders.
