Pests We Treat Photo Album: Left Out Food and Spilled Drinks Causes a Cockroach and Fruit Fly Infestation in Mantoloking, NJ

Due to improper storage of their food and unsanitary conditions, this commercial building had a massive cockroach and fruit fly infestation.

Cockroaches in the Meat

Beginning our inspection, we found cockroaches in the meat, behind the appliances, on the prep table, and inside the fridge.

Loaded with Fruit Flies

The fruit and vegetables were also loaded with fruit flies. What contributed to the massive infestations? Improper sanitation. Maintaining proper sanitation in your business is a great way to prevent pests, like fruit flies or cockroaches, from infesting your building. However, a poor sanitation program always increases the risk of major and expensive pest issues.

Everything Must Go

We informed the manager that every single food item that was loaded with cockroaches and fruit flies must be disposed of as well as anything that isn't nailed down must be removed for an intensive treatment. The manager agreed and began disposing of all the contaminated food.

First, the Cockroaches

We treated every single nook & cranny of the building with an EPA registered insect growth regulator that is combined with a residual product. This treatment affects the cockroaches' reproductive system and prevents them from reaching adulthood. Next, we applied a knockdown aerosol product to every single crack, crevice, appliance, and baseboard throughout the building. This product flushes the cockroaches out of hiding, into the growth regulator, and rapidly exterminates them.

Now for the Fruit Flies

Once we finished with the treatment for cockroaches, we shifted our attention to the fruit flies. We applied a liquid application in all the floor drains and then scrubbed them out with our heavy-duty scrubbing brush. Next, we applied a bio-foam solution that removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum in the drains.

Pheromone Devices & Follow Ups

Afterward, we treated the high infestation areas with a fly bait to control the adult fruit flies and installed several fruit fly traps. The attractant in the traps draws the fruit flies close and the bait inside the traps exterminates them within moments of contact. Lastly, we placed several monitoring devices throughout the high infestation areas and scheduled several follow-up visits to monitor the infestations and apply any additional treatments until the cockroaches and the fruit flies are eliminated for good.
