Harboring in the Window Frame
Once we arrived and took a closer look at these pests, we immediately identified them as carpenter ants, not termites. Unlike termites, carpenter ants do not eat wood; rather, they excavate it for their nests. Continuing our inspection, we noticed that the carpenter ants were actually harboring inside the window frame and the living room wall!
Moisture Attracted Them
Turns out that the window frame was rotted due to a moisture leak that went unnoticed for quite some time. Since carpenter ants are attracted to moisture damaged wood, they took advantage of this opportunity and infested the home!
Needs to be Replaced
Unfortunately, the window and wall was badly damaged from the leak and will need to be replaced, which the homeowner will do once the carpenter ants are gone.
For Treatment
To eliminate the carpenter ants, with the owners permission, we drilled into the wall and the window frame and injected a foaming residual application.
Another Treatment
Afterward, we treated the cracks, crevices, and baseboards of the living room and the entire exterior of the home with a liquid non-repellant. Once the worker carpenter ants come in contact with either of these products they will bring them back to their nest and share the treatments with their reproductive queen and the other ants in the colony. A short while later, the carpenter ants are eliminated.
