Pests We Treat Photo Album: Cicada Killer Problem in Fair Haven, NJ
A new customer in Fair Haven, NJ called our office stating that they had a cicada killer wasp problem in their front and back yard.
Walking with Cicada Killer Wasps
As I inspected the home, I noticed a few large, flying insects along the walkway to the front door. When I got closer and inspected, I identified them as cicada killer wasps.
Info on Cicada Killer Wasps
Cicada killer wasps feed on cicadas. The females burrow into the ground close to cicadas, hunt a cicada, paralyze it with its stinger, and lay their eggs inside the cicada. The eggs then hatch and the larvae feed on the cicada while it is still alive.
Don't Be Scared
Don't be terrified by these large flying insects (unless you're a cicada). Unless you directly handle them or step on them, they're harmless.
Cicada Killer Treatment
I'm going to inject a knockdown dusting application into each burrow, which will rapidly exterminate the cicada killers wasps.
