Pests We Treat Photo Album: Carpenter Bees Attack Shed in Rumson, NJ
As I was treating one of our commercial accounts in Rumson, NJ, I observed several carpenter bees flying around a firewood storage shed by the back door.
Carpenter Bee Galleries
Upon closer inspection I saw that the carpenter bees had bored a few holes in the framework of the wooden shed. Female Carpenter bees forage in early Spring looking for soft wood to bore into to create a gallery in which to lay her eggs. The female carpenter bee then creates a circular, 1/2 inch in diameter hole to create the galleries.
The Male Carpenter Bees
While the female is in the gallery the male carpenter bee flies around protecting the nesting female from potential threats. These are the carpenter bees that are seen flying around. Although the males do not sting, their large size can be intimidating to people.
To Treat the Carpenter Bees
I decided the best treatment method was to use a direct-contact dust residual and inject the application into each gallery.
Eliminates the Carpenter Bees Fast
The carpenter bees are exterminated almost immediately once they come in contact with the residual dust. This treatment remains in the gallery for a long time so the emerging young bees will also be eliminated.
