Pests We Treat Photo Album: Drain flies in Paramus, NJ

Today's pest-control adventure brings me to one of our commercial accounts in Paramus New Jersey.  This particular client was informed by their grease trap pumping company that they had what they believe to be fleas in their grease trap.   After hearing the story from the client I ruled out the possibility that fleas were living in their grease trap for multiple reasons. Fleas need a bloodmeal in order to survive and unless somebody is living in the grease trap for the fleas to feed off of that was no possibility. My initial thought was drain flies, was I right? I arrived to meet the client first thing in the morning. With the use of by adjustable wrench, prybar and screwdriver I was able to access the grease trap. Once the grease trap was open and I instantly saw what appeared to be fly larvae and drain flies walking around the sides of the trap. I instantly grabbed my hand pump sprayer and began treating with the chemical application that consists of a suspended capsulation with a residual and a IGR which kills all eggs and larva day upon contact. I then grabbed my scrub brush and scrub the way the remaining grease that they were feeding off of.  Once the work was completed inside the grease trap treated the underside of the grease trap cover, placed it back on the base and bolted it back down. I followed up with a light chemical application to all cracks and crevices of the lid where it contacted the base. The customer was extremely happy and we both left the facility with a smile on her faces. Pest-control isn't always as simple as walking in and spraying here or there. You really have to investigate and be prepared with the proper tools to go above and beyond what the average company is willing to do. That's what makes this job working for Cowleys so exciting.
