Pests We Treat Photo Album: Inspecting for Rats in Red Bank, NJ
I went out on a service call for a property manager of a condo association in Red Bank, NJ who was having an issue with rats.
Rat Burrows
Beginning my inspection I found a rat burrow near one of the buildings. Rats create these burrows from their nest to food sources and like to burrow under rocks, concrete slabs, or dense vegetation. How do I know it's a rat burrow and not a mouse burrow? Rat burrows are 2 to 4 inches wide while mice's are 3 cm wide.
Long Distance Travel
Turns out the rats were entering the buildings through the crawl space and nesting in the attics.
Powder
Since all the burrows were within 3 feet from the buildings we filled in the burrows and placed a tracking power on and around the burrow.
Bait Stations
I also placed several Ready-to-Use bait stations around the exterior and throughout the crawl space. After pointing out all the entry points the property manager told me that he will have his maintenance crew seal them off. I'll return to the community in two weeks to replenish the bait stations and monitor the rat activity.
