Pests We Treat Photo Album: Bed Bugs Nap on the Couch in Long Branch, NJ
A resident in Long Branch, NJ a rather large bed bug problem on his couch.
All Over the Coach
Once we began our inspection, it wasn't hard to locate the bed bugs. They were all over the couch!
Entomology of a Bed Bug
Adult bed bugs are oval, flattened, and brown insects that are about 1/4 to 3/8 inches long. Due to their small size they can move into very tight corners and crevices. After a bed bug has taken a blood meal its color changes from brown to purplish-red and it becomes enlarged.
Remove the Problem
Bed bugs need to feed at least once before each molt, although they could feed as often as once a day. After thoroughly inspecting the remainder of the house we, didn't find any bed bugs anywhere else. Since this was the only area that had bed bugs, we carefully wrapped up the couch and disposed of it.
Vacuum and Spray
Once the couch was removed we then used our HEPA filtered vacuums, vacuumed the area, and applied a solution composed of a liquid non-repellent residual and an insect growth regulator throughout the entire home. This will eliminate any bed bugs in the area. We scheduled a follow-up inspection to monitor the activity and apply any additional treatment if needed.
