Pests We Treat Photo Album: Cockroach Infestation in Ocean Township, NJ
A property manager of an apartment complex in Ocean Township, NJ contacted our office after one of his tenants reported a severe German cockroach infestation in her apartment.
Severe Infestation
As soon as we began inspecting the kitchen area we found a severe German cockroach infestation. German cockroaches are light brown to tan in color with two dark, almost parallel stripes located on their backs. They prefer to live in warm, humid places close to food and moisture sources. German cockroaches are a severe threat to the health of humans because they are known to spread bacteria and diseases and contaminate food.
How it Spreads So Fast
One of main reasons why a cockroach infestation in an apartment complex can get out of hand is that the individual who originally has the pest problem doesn't report the infestation to the property manager. Instead, they try to handle the issue themselves and don't use the proper applications or treat every single harborage area correctly. By not treating the infested areas appropriately, the infestation gets out of control and can potentially spread to other areas of the home as well as the neighboring apartments.
Remove and Spray
First, we had the tenant remove and dispose of all the contaminated food. Next, we informed the tenant that anything not to be sprayed must be covered, or washed thoroughly afterward. After everything was removed and covered, we applied a non-repellent residual application around the infested areas, cracks and crevices.
Control the Infestation
The application is an EPA registered growth regulator that affects their reproduction system so they can't reproduce. This treatment knocks down the majority of the cockroach population to a more manageable level.
Microinjection
Next, we used a microinjection machine that sprays a very fine mist of an oil-based product into the cracks and crevices where the cockroaches may be hiding. What this product does is chase the cockroaches into the growth regulator that was sprayed earlier.
Follow Up
After all the infected areas have been treated appropriately, we scheduled a follow-up inspection at a later date to set up glue trap monitors to determine if any more harborage areas exist, and reestablish control of the home.
