Pests We Treat Photo Album: Bald-Faced Hornet Nesting in Shrubbery in Holmdel, NJ
We were sent out on a service call for a homeowner in Holmdel, NJ who called our office after discovering a hornet's nest in their front yard.
Carefully Tucked Away
We equipped our protective bee suit and began surveying the shrubs in the front yard. A few moments into our inspection a number of bald-faced hornets emerged and gave us a warm welcome by trying to sting us. Good thing we have our suits on!
Decent Sized
We noticed that the nest was about the size of a soccer ball. In the right circumstances, these nest can grow larger than a basketball and contain over 400 stinging insects! Bald-faced hornets are social insects, which means that these are the ones that sting. They are short-tempered and WILL defend their nest against intruders.
Knocked Down Immediately
Using my extendable pole I applied a knockdown aerosol directly into the entranceway of the nest. This product neutralizes the bald-faced hornets.
Scraped Away
I then removed the nest out of the tree, properly disposed of it, and treated the trunk and surrounding branches with a residual aerosol to prevent any stinging insects from building in that area again.
