Pests We Treat Photo Album: Field Ants Out and About in Brick, NJ
A Unusual Site
As we were treating the backyard we noticed a colony of ants trailing from a small burrow in the ground. As we took a closer look and examined their behavior, we identified them as field ants.
Info on Field Ants
Field ants are pale yellow to reddish-brown colored ants that are roughly 1/8 - 3/8 in size. They are also called thatching ants, red ants, and wood ants. Field ants don't have a stinger, but they will bite when disturbed and some even spray formic acid into the wound when they bite, so it can be very painful.
Some Nesting Areas
They often nest around small trees, shrubs or rocks. Other species build their nests in the cracks of sidewalks, along foundation walls and at the base of trees.
Treatment Time for the Ants
We applied a granular bait application as well as a liquid residual application along the entire exterior of the home.
In No Time At All
Once the ants come in contact with either of these treatments they'll transfer it back to their colony, either through grooming or feeding. In a short amount of time, the colony is eliminated.
