Pests We Treat Photo Album: Carpenter Ants Munch on Wooden Columns in Red Bank, NJ
During a home protection plan inspection for a homeowner in Red Bank, NJ, I noticed carpenter ants trailing along the wooden columns.
That's a Lot of Ants
As I approached the porch area, I discovered hundreds of carpenter ants crawling all over the columns.
Facts About Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants are wood destroying insects that nest in both moist and dry wood, but prefer wood that's moist. They are usually 1/4-1/2 an inch in size and are blackish in color. Carpenter ant swarms are a sure sign that a colony is nesting somewhere inside the structure.
They're All Over
With further inspection I realized all columns were infested with carpenter ants and needed immediate attention.
Flush Them Out
I treated ever single column with an aerosol flusher.
More Treatments
And then treated the entire exterior with a liquid application and a granular bait.
Bye Bye Ants
Once they ants come in contact with any of these applications, they will carry them back to the colony and share them with the queen and other ants. In no time at all, the entire colony will be neutralized.
