Pests We Treat Photo Album: Citronella Ants Shop Around in Ocean Township, NJ
While we were conducting a routine inspection for one of Cowleys commercial accounts, a supermarket building in Ocean Township, NJ, we found something interesting and unusual underneath the mulch bed — citronella ants!
Wasn't Expecting These Little Guys
We sure weren't expecting to find citronella ants in the mulch bed. That's why a routine inspection is never "routine."
What Are Citronella Ants?
Citronella ants are small, yellow ants that nest and build colonies under logs, rocks, and even crawl spaces. Workers are approximately 4 mm in size while queens are about 8mm. The workers emit a very strong lemon like smell when crushed.
Time for the Non-Repellant
We applied a liquid non-repellant directly on the ant trail, mulch bed, and along the entire exterior of the building.
How They Transfer the Treatment
The citronella ants will come in contact with this treatment, return to their colony and groom one another, unknowingly transferring the application to one another. This causes the application to spread throughout the colony like a virus, ensuring complete elimination of the ants.
