Pests We Treat Photo Album: Cicada Killer Wasps Ruin Homeowner's Lawn in Freehold, NJ
We went out a service call for a homeowner in Freehold, NJ who was complaining of "bees" all over her front yard.
Cicada Killer Wasps
After an inspection, it turned out that the "bees" were actually cicada killers wasps and a large swarm of them. These wasps get their name from killing cicadas in order to reproduce their larvae.
Appearances Can Be Deceiving
These wasps look deadly and dangerous, but in reality, they aren't aggressive and rarely sting unless they are grasped roughly, stepped upon with bare feet, or caught in clothing.
Dig Multiple Burrows
Cicada killer wasps generally look for areas in full sunlight near trees where cicadas live. They dig tunnels in the ground, causing damage to lawns.
Dusting Time
For treatment, we applied a dust application into each burrow. This application will spread throughout the voids and attached itself to the cicada killers. Once they go to groom themselves, the colony will be eliminated.
