Pests We Treat Photo Album: Pavement Ants Attend a Family BBQ in Neptune, NJ

A homeowner in Neptune, NJ was getting ready for a big house party and put down all new mulch around his home. After two days of laying down mulch, he had pavement ants all over his kitchen and bathroom. Mulch creates a perfect habitat for ants because it traps moisture, offers limitless places for them to hide from predators, offers temperature relief from the hot sun, and even serves as a food source for a variety of ants.

Found the Ant Trail

As soon as I began my inspection I came across multiple lines of ants coming from the mulch up to the house shingles.

They Are Pavement Ants

I took a closer look and identified these ants as pavement ants. Pavement ants are the most common household invasive ants. They are darkish brown to black in color and are approximately a 1/8 of an inch in size.

Entering the home Under the Siding

As I examined the ant trail I discovered that the ants were able to gain access into the home underneath the siding.

Interior Treatment

I treated all the cracks, and crevices in the bathroom, kitchen, and the surrounding rooms with a liquid application and then treated all the baseboards with an ant gel bait.

Exterior Treatment

I applied a liquid non-repellent application along the exterior perimeter of the home. When ants come in contact with either the liquid application or the gel bait, they will transport it back to their colony to share with the other colony members, including the reproductive queen. Within a short period of time, the entire colony will be eliminated! I scheduled a follow-up inspection to monitor the ant infestation.
