Pests We Treat Photo Album: Pavement Ants Make a New Vacation Home in Neptune, NJ
Recently, I went on a service call in Neptune, NJ for a homeowner who was complaining of ants all along the exterior of his property. Once I arrived and began my inspection I discovered multiple locations where the ants were trailing up the foundation. A closer inspection revealed that these ants were pavement ants.
Ants Gaining Access
After a thorough inspection, I discovered that the pavement ants were entering the home underneath the siding of the property as well as various cracks in the concrete foundation.
Facts About Pavement Ants
As their name indicates, pavement ants are found outside under cracks of pavement, under stones, and next to buildings. They are only 1/16-inch long and are distinguished by two spines on the back, two nodes on the petiole, and grooves on the head and thorax. The colonies can be moderately large and they move in small motions when foraging.
Step One: Apply the Gel Bait
Since there were multiple access points along the exterior, this property would need a thorough treatment. First, I applied a gel bait in the corners of the foundation and along the ant trails. Ants will feed on the gel bait, return to their nest and transfer the bait to the queen and their young.
Next, Apply a Liquid Non-Repellant.
Then I applied a liquid non-repellant application along the entire exterior of the home where the ants were gaining entry. Ants regurgitate food to feed each other, they groom each other, and they even eat their dead. All of this activity rapidly spreads the product throughout the colony. Once an ant comes in contact with the liquid non-repellant application and the gel bait, in a short amount of time, the colony will be eliminated and the home will be free of ants. The homeowner was very pleased with the servicing of her home!
