For out commercial clients, especially restaurants and other food-related businesses, for whom we offer pest control services, we seek to prevent pest and rodent infestations from happening in the first place, or if they do happen, to resolve the problem quickly while still in its early stages. Effective insect control is a joint effort that requires cooperation and communication. For example, in any business with a commercial kitchen, like this one in Hazlet, NJ proper sanitation and hygiene protocols to be followed by the kitchen staff is essential.
Under food equipment.
One of the most important tools we use to stay on top of things and gauge the level of insect activity is monitoring. Insect monitors are our "eyes" between our regularly scheduled visits.
Glue monitors.
We place monitors in harborage areas where insects hide - those moist, dark places in kitchens, storage areas, and bars.
Cockroaches and nymphs
While monitoring alone will not prevent infestations, it helps us identify the infestation before it becomes an entrenched, out-of-control problem. With insect infestations, early treatment can make all the difference.
Inspecting with flashlight.
As far as harborage areas for cockroaches, these insects seek out narrow cracks and crevices that they can feel with their antennae.
Inspecting storeroom.
We commonly find these pests in dark, warm, moist areas - the higher the humidity, the better. We often find them around refrigerator motors and other heat-generating equipment, under sinks, and around water pipes, especially hot water pipes.
Inspecting the glue monitors.
There many reasons why roaches are so resilient and these infestations can be challenging to treat, but one in particular is the roach egg case (called the ootheca) itself. This case is is carried around by the female until she drops it in a favorable location once the eggs are ready to hatch. A single German cockroach casing can contain upwards of 50 eggs! Most applications cannot penetrate these casings, which are made out of a hardened protein substance, So, even if you kill the live roaches, there are still hidden eggs ready to hatch. It usually takes a few treatment cycles to fully resolve a roach infestation.
Glue monitors
We strategically placed glue monitors.
Look what we caught.
As you can see in the pictures of female German roaches that were caught on the monitors, one of the females has her egg case still attached, and the emerging nymphs were caught in the glue trap. The other female had just dropped her egg case, and you see the nymphs had left the egg case.
