Peak of Home Under Attack by Carpenter Bees in Hillsborough, NJ
Challenge
We were sent out on a service call to the home of a new customer in Hillsborough, NJ to handle a bee problem at the peak of the home. However, when we arrived and took a look at the area, we quickly identified these flying insects as carpenter bees.
Carpenter bees are solitary, wood-destroying pests and can be intimidating just by their size! The good news is that they are usually harmless. The carpenter bees that you see flying around are the males and they can't sting. In fact, their only way of defending their galleries (or nests) is to dive bomb at the threat and scare them away. The female carpenter bees can sting however and they drill perfectly circular ½-inch diameter holes into wooden structures.
They look similar to bumblebees, but they lack yellow markings on their abdomens. Instead, carpenter bee abdomens are smooth and shiny, whereas bumblebees’ have hairy, yellow abdomens.
Solution
We grabbed our extendable pole, attached a residual dusting application to it, and then injected that treatment into each one of the drill holes. This will exterminate the carpenter bees quickly as well as leave behind a residual that will neutralize the carpenter bees that return to their nests and any newly hatched carpenter bees inside the galleries.
