Mice Contaminated the Attic in Port Reading, NJ
Challenge
After hearing "scratching noises" in her attic and smelling an extremely unpleasant smell on the second floor of her home, this elderly homeowner in Port Reading, NJ called Cowleys for help and we were sent out to inspect and treat. As soon as we started inspecting the attic, we found multiple mice tunnels in the insulation. As we took a closer look, we noticed that the insulation was soaked with mice urine and filled with their droppings. That explains the strong, unpleasant smell throughout the second floor!
We informed the owner that almost all the insulation was contaminated and, since it presented a big health hazard, it must be removed and disposed of ASAP. She agreed and mentioned that, once the mice are gone, she will contact our Attic & Crawl Space division to remove all the contaminated insulation, disinfect the area, and add blown-in cellulose insulation.
Solution
First, we carefully vacuumed up the droppings throughout the attic. Next, we placed several rodent bait stations in the attic, the two rooms on the second floor, and along the exterior of the home. We will return for several follow-up visits to monitor the infestation and replenish the bait stations as needed.
