How Mice Got Into the Basement in Beachwood, NJ
Challenge
A new customer in Beachwood, NJ noticed a large amount of mice droppings in his basement and was deeply concerned that he may have an infestation, so he called our office for help.
As we began inspecting the area, we noticed two large piles of fresh mice droppings in the boiler room area of the basement. We reported our findings to the owner and confirmed that he did indeed have mice infesting his home. He was curious as to how he had an infestation as he cleans his home every week. We assured him that it had nothing to do with his home being dirty, but the fact that there were several gaps around the utility pipes on the inside and outside of his home. Mice only need an opening the width of a pencil to invade a home and these openings offered an open invitation for the mice to infest his home!
Solution
First, we carefully cleaned up the droppings. Afterward, we stuffed all the gaps around the utility pipes on the interior and exterior of the home with stainless steel mesh and then sealed them in place with a premium, waterproof adhesive. Afterward, we installed several rodent bait stations in the basement and the exterior of the home. Lastly, we scheduled several follow up inspections to monitor the infestation and replenish the bait in the bait stations until the mice are no longer infesting the home.
