Digger Bees Infest & Wreck Homeowners Yard in Shrewsbury, NJ
Challenge
We received a call from a new customer in Shrewsbury, NJ, who mentioned see hundreds of "ground bees" infesting her back yard. We were sent out to investigate and treat.
Minutes into our inspection we immediately saw the damage done to the yard and were able to identify these pests as digger bees. Digger bees, also called ground bees, are solitary, non-social wasps. The first sign of digger bees in lawns are little mounds of soil with a hole nearby and digger bees flying over the area. Digger bees are solitary bees that live one colony per hole, but there may be many holes in an area creating digger bee communities. The females dig these half-inch to one-inch deep burrows to nest and raise young. A key indication of a digger bee infestation is the multiple pencil-sized dirt mounds across a lawn.
Solution
For treatment, we soaked each digger bee mound with a liquid residual. This application eliminates the digger bees almost immediately.
