Drain Flies Run Rapid in Milltown, NJ
Challenge
After closing down his business for a couple of days, this business owner in Milltown, NJ, was shocked to discover that his business had been taken over by drain flies! He immediately called our office and we were sent out to inspect and treat.
During our inspection of the building, we noticed that several of the floor drains were filled with discarded debris and liquids, which contributed to the drain fly infestation. Continuing our investigation, we discovered that one of the floor drains had a crack in the tile, and water was pooling around the area. We took a closer look and found hundreds of drain fly larvae harboring in the cracks.
Drain flies enjoy stagnant water that collects even small amounts of bacteria and sewage. They can lay eggs in the film that forms on the inside of pipes and drains when water pools and collects sewage.
Solution
Before we began treating, we advised the owner to mop up the area and to have the broken tile fixed ASAP. We were happy to see the owner and his crew cleaning the area and repairing the tile. As they were cleaning, we scrubbed out all the drains in the area and treated them with a liquid product. This treatment removes the bad bacteria in the drains, which is the breeding ground for the drain flies.
Next, we treated the drains with a bio-foam solution that eliminates all fly-attracting odors. Afterward, we applied a fly bait product around the area to eliminate any active drain flies. Lastly, we scheduled several follow-up visits to apply any additional treatments if needed and to monitor the infestation.
