Broken Tile and Old Matts Filled with Fruit Flies in Neptune, NJ
Challenge
A business owner in Neptune, NJ called Cowleys after noticing some fruit flies in his restaurant.
When we started inspecting, we found dark-eyed fruit flies hovering around the bar. Continuing our inspection, we also noticed that there was a large build-up of spilled alcohol and soda in the mats, which is the reason why the fruit flies were attracted to this area! There was also a broken piece of tile that had a small puddle of various liquids in it, which was also filled with fruit flies.
Fruit flies feed and breed in decaying and bacteria-ridden areas and will then land on food and food-contact surfaces where they can transmit food-borne bacteria and spread different types of food-borne illnesses. Due to the poor sanitation of this area, it was practically a haven for fruit flies!
We brought these sanitation issues to the owner's attention as well as pointed out that the broken tile needs to replaced ASAP. We suggested a few simple sanitation tips that'll prevent fruit flies as well as any other pests from infesting his business. We were happy to see that the owner and his staff immediately began cleaning the area.
Solution
As the staff was deep cleaning the area, we scrubbed all the drains and applied a liquid application that removes the bad bacteria from the drain that fruit flies breed in. Lastly, we treated the floor drains with a bio-foam solution that eliminates all fly-attracting odors. Once we finished, the owner replaced the broken tile.
Now the owner will no longer have any issues with fruit flies!
