Mouse Intrusion in Eatontown, NJ
Challenge
As this homeowner in Eatontown, NJ was replacing his refrigerator he noticed a large number of mice droppings around the fridge, so he called Cowleys and I was sent out to inspect.
When I arrived and inspected the kitchen, I noticed that the area that had the highest amount of mice droppings was behind the fridge, so I took a closer look and found a wide gap in between the drywall and the tile. This opening may seem too small for a mouse to fit through, but in actuality, mice can fit through an opening the size of a pencil or dime!
Now that I located where the mice were harboring in the kitchen, I had to determine how they were entering the home. An inspection of the exterior of the home gave me my answer, as I found several utility pipes that had wide gaps around them.
Solution
I carefully cleaned up all the mouse droppings and then stuffed the gap behind the refrigerator with stainless steel mesh and sealed it in place with a premium, waterproof adhesive. The mice will be unable to chew through these materials! The homeowner mentioned that after the holiday season, he will hire someone to fix his tile and remove that gap behind the fridge.
I then went outside and sealed up all the gaps around the utility pipes with the same materials. Lastly, I placed several interior rodent bait stations around the kitchen and several large exterior rodent bait stations along the exterior perimeter of the home. I scheduled several follow up visits to monitor the mouse infestation, replenish the bait, and determine if any additional treatments are needed.
