Crawl Space Encapsulation in South Plainfield, NJ
Challenge
As this homeowner in South Plainfield, NJ was getting ready to retrieve some items he had stored in his crawl space, he noticed that the cardboard boxes and the items he had stored inside them were soaked. After examining his crawl space, he realized he had a moisture problem and needed to fix it, so he called Cowleys and our Contracting Division was sent out.
When we arrived, we inspected the crawl space and, using our hygrometer, determined that the homeowner had an ongoing water intrusion issue in the crawl space and that the humidity levels were extremely high. We brought these issues to the homeowner and he decided to invest in a full “CleanSpace” installation to alleviate any further water or humidity issues.
Solution
First, we removed all of the debris out of the crawl space, leveled it, and installed a dimpled plastic drainage matting. This allows all excess moisture to work its way over to the working sump pump that was currently installed. Next, we installed our vapor barrier — which is a heavy-duty material that is treated with an antimicrobial finish that protects against mold and mildew growth and is a 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement.
Afterward, we installed SilverGlo™ along the walls of the crawl space. SilverGlo™ is a durable and waterproof rigid foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity. Lastly, we installed a Sani-Dry Sedona dehumidifier. This heavy-duty, commercial-grade dehumidifier directs the extracted water pulled out of the air directly into the sump pump.
Now the homeowner has peace of mind knowing that his crawl space, as well as the foundation of his home, is clean and dry and will no longer have any issues with moisture, mold, humidity, or mildew.
