Attic Insulation Photo Album: Installing All New Blown-in Cellulose Insulation Throughout the Attic in Rumson, NJ
We're here at this home in Rumson, NJ, getting ready to install new blown-in cellulose insulation in the attic.
Insulation Is Old
The insulation in the attic hasn't been replaced since the original construction in 1968! Over time, insulation can wear down due to old age and weather.
Take it Out
First thing we did, was remove all the old insulation and properly dispose of it.
Air Sealed & Tight Shell Light Covers
Next, we air sealed all the gaps and cracks in the attic, which will eliminate air flow between the living space and the attic, improving energy efficiency. Afterward, we installed Tight Shell Can Light Covers over the recessed lights in the attic.
What Are They Made Of?
These are made out of a fire resistant material and is specifically designed to stop unwanted air leakage through the recessed lights. We then placed several measuring sticks throughout the attic to ensure that the proper amount of R-value is added to the attic
Now for TruSoft
Once that was done, we added over 12 inches of TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation throughout the attic.
A Couple of Benefits
Not only does this fill the attic to its recommended insulation levels, but TruSoft insulation maximizes home comfort, has the highest Class-1 fire safety rating, is resistant to mold and pests, is eco-friendly, and optimizes energy usage for year-round peace and savings for the homeowner!
Last Comes the Hatch Cover
Lastly, we installed a reflective attic stairway insulator over the attic stairs. This functions by forming air spaces with layers of bubbles and reflective foils. These spaces restrict air movement which reduces heat flow by convection. Additionally, the reflectivity and low emissivity of each reflective layer also reflects away up to 96% of radiant heat! The homeowners now have an incredibly energy efficient attic that helps contain any conditioned air in the living spaces.
